The peaberry, also known as pearl bean in German, is a rare and fascinating variant of the coffee bean variety. Only about 5-10% of coffee cherries contain peaberries, which are characterized by their single kernel - in contrast to the usual coffee cherry, which contains two kernels. This mutation means that the single kernel has more space and develops a round shape.

Our Peaberry Arabica comes from the renowned Butta coffee cooperative, which operates its farm on the majestic Mount Elgon.

Visually, the pearl bean already differs from other types of coffee beans, but it is also a rarity in terms of taste: the entire aroma is concentrated on the single kernel, which leads to a more intense taste experience.

Roasting these special beans presented us with a challenge. Due to the higher density compared to conventional coffee beans, the heat is distributed differently during roasting. We invested a lot of time to develop the perfect cup profile.

With our "PEARL OF AFRICA" roast, we have created a balanced flavor profile that impresses with notes of dried fruit, pronounced nut nuances and a fine chocolate note. The result is a mild and well-rounded coffee experience.

Background: Winston Churchill nicknamed Uganda “The Pearl of Africa” after his visit in 1908 to recognize the country’s beauty, diversity and natural wealth. This name inspires us to emphasize the uniqueness and value of our Peaberry coffee.
